Itinerary of the Extreme Adventure Tour in the Amazon
Day 1: Reception in Iquitos, Canoe Exploration and Caiman Sighting.
- 8:00 am – Expedition Begins: We start with pickup at your hotel or the airport in Iquitos. We will travel by land to the port city of Nauta, the gateway to the deep jungle.
- Navigation to the Heart of the River: In Nauta, we’ll board our boat to the lodge. Along the way, we’ll witness the majestic Meeting of the Waters: the exact point where the Marañón and Ucayali rivers converge to form the mighty Amazon River. Here, keep your camera ready for the first sightings of pink and gray river dolphins.
- Arrival and Amazonian Lunch: After settling into the lodge, we will enjoy our first lunch with fresh local ingredients, surrounded by the sounds of nature.
- Canoe Exploration (Afternoon): We’ll venture into the lagoon systems in traditional wooden boats for a fully immersive experience. In the style of early explorers, we’ll search among the foliage for monkeys, sloths, macaws, and toucans. The small size of the boat allows us to access pristine areas where the wildlife is on full display.
- Sunset and Nightlife: We’ll enjoy a unique sunset over the Amazonian horizon. As night falls, we’ll embark on a search for caimans (both white and black), navigating rivers, lagoons, or lakes. Since caimans are nocturnal predators that come out to feed, your expert guide will teach you to identify their glowing eyes in the water and explain the mysteries of this nocturnal wildlife.
- Dinner and Rest: We end the day with a homemade dinner at the hostel under an unforgettable starry sky, recharging our energy for the next day of adventure.
Day 2: Jungle Immersion - Survival, Pink Dolphins and Night Hike.
- Breakfast: Conquering the Virgin Rainforest: After an energizing breakfast, we’ll venture deep into the rainforest for a total immersion expedition. Here, nature dictates the rules.
- Jungle Wisdom: You will learn to “read” the forest like a native tracker. You will identify healing plants and those that protect; you will learn the secrets of trees to alert you to your presence and what vegetation to use as a shield against the jaguar.
- Giant Trees of the Amazon: We will cross trails guarded by the imposing Lupuna, the titan of the jungle, while tracking the movement of monkeys, snakes and exotic birds in the treetops.
- Extreme Survival Training: Test your instincts with a hands-on survival workshop led by our expert guides:
- Vital Resources: Master the art of extracting water from vines, collecting wild fruits, and navigating the green maze without a compass.
- Action in the Heights : Defy gravity by swinging on the vines of “Tarzan”, a test of strength and skill in the middle of the most biodiverse ecosystem on the planet.
- Hunting and Gathering : Like a true jungle inhabitant, we will collect chonta and wild mushrooms to integrate them into a rustic and authentic lunch.
- Afternoon: Wild Encounter and Renewal in the Mud.
- Swim with Pink Dolphins: We’ll jump into the waters of the Amazon River for a face-to-face encounter with the legendary pink dolphins. You’ll feel the energy of these alpha predators as you swim in their territory—an experience of absolute respect for wildlife.
- Warrior Treatment (Natural Spa): We’ll head to the banks of a tributary river for a volcanic mud bath. Cover your body in mineral sediments charged with jungle energy to protect and renew your skin after the jungle battle.
- Night: Expedition in Total Darkness: When the sun sets, the predators awaken. Equipped with flashlights, we’ll embark on a night hike to confront the sounds and shadows of the jungle. It’s time to spot giant insects, fluorescent amphibians, and feel the adrenaline rush of being a guest in the realm of the night.
Day 3: Bird watching, piranhas, sloths, anacondas in the Amazon.
- Sunrise in the Amazon, Birdwatching Tour by Canoe: Experience the rainforest at its most vibrant with an early morning canoe trip to watch the sunrise from the river. This expedition within the reserve searches for iconic species such as macaws, toucans, the prehistoric hoatzin, and the camungo. It will be a total immersion in the country with the greatest bird diversity in the world, witnessing the rainforest awaken.
- Breakfast and Piranha Fishing : After a hearty breakfast, we’ll head to the dark tributaries of the Amazon for piranha fishing. We’ll uncover the truth behind these legendary fish, known for their voracious appetites and sharp teeth, exploring their importance in the aquatic ecosystem.
- Afternoon: Wild Encounter with Sloths: We’ll sail to remote spots to discover these fascinating animals resting on the shores of Amazonian lakes. In the Peruvian Amazon, sloths (also known locally as “pelejos”) are iconic arboreal mammals. They are characterized by their extremely slow pace of life, an evolutionary adaptation to conserve energy thanks to their low-calorie diet, based primarily on leaves.
- Night: Anaconda Expedition in the Amazon: As night falls, the predators become active. We’ll set out with flashlights on a night hike to search for anacondas. These semi-aquatic animals primarily inhabit the Amazon River basin and the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve in Iquitos, Peru.
- Dinner: We’ll end the day with a nutritious dinner to recharge our energy after a day full of activities. Ready for tomorrow’s adventure!
Day 4: Monkey Island, Victoria Regia Water Lilies and Visit to a Native Community.
- Visit to Monkey Island: Before breakfast, we’ll visit a sanctuary dedicated to the rescue and release of primates. Here you can interact with monkeys that were rescued from illegal logging and now live in a protected area. It’s a unique opportunity to observe their behavior up close and support them by feeding them seasonal fruit.
- Victoria Regia: To observe these beautiful aquatic plants, one visits the Amazonian lakes where they grow and reproduce. The Victoria amazonica (or Victoria regia), emblematic of the Peruvian Amazon, is the largest water lily in the world. It is distinguished by its enormous circular leaves, up to 3 meters in diameter, with raised edges capable of supporting up to 40 kg, and white or pink flowers of 40 cm that open only at night.
- Visit a Native Community: Immerse yourself in the heart of the Amazon with a visit to a native community, where you can observe life along the riverbanks firsthand. Discover their construction techniques, visit schools and churches, and learn about their ancestral fishing and farming methods. Interact with the warm local people, experiencing their customs and traditions. You’ll also have the unique opportunity to purchase handicrafts made from natural materials, sharing in the joy of their culture.
- Lunch and Conservation Talk: We’ll enjoy our last lunch in the heart of the Amazon. Afterward, the guides will share an educational talk about the challenges facing the Peruvian rainforest. We’ll learn how your visit and ecotourism represent a vital alternative to mining and logging, directly benefiting local communities.
- Transfer and Farewell in Iquitos: We will begin the return journey combining boat and minivan transport. The tour ends with a transfer directly to your hotel in Iquitos or to the airport.
- Reminder: Don’t forget to provide us with your flight details in advance so we can coordinate your departure transfer on time.
